Script to the movie:
Hello Marie Therese Lawlor here. The quote of the day is, “Build your own pyramids, write your own hieroglyphs.” The ancient Egyptians built astonishing pyramids and wrote hieroglyphs that we remember them by to this day even after thousands of years their civilization existed. The pyramids they created are wonders and today we visit them and stand in awe of their achievements. Their hieroglyphic writings help us learn about what went on thousands of years ago. They are records of our past.
As a photographer, you too must build your own pyramid by creating a website with a body of your work. Give out the link of this website to those interested in seeing your work. Show them what you have accomplished. Show them what you have recorded. Make a website that is memorable and filled with your best photographs. Show your audience your skill set.
Your photography website can also be used to gain employment or clients. This site can showcase your portfolio and it will help you get jobs because you will be showing how competent you are as a photographer. Also show your Photoshop skills, digital art, and even paintings and drawings. Show that you are not only skilled in taking pictures, but you are skilled in art and you are a well-rounded individual.
Write about your photography. Write about your experiences in photography school. Write about your work and what inspires you. Write about your processes. Teach others photography skills you have learned. Write to inspire others to do photography.
I also suggest adding videos to your site. This can be a simple slideshow of your work with music playing in the background. Make a lasting impression on your potential clients.
I highly suggest creating a WordPress site to showcase your work. It is free and easy to do. It is very intuitive to use. You can add posts. Add images and videos to your post. What more could you want?
I have been posting my work on WordPress. I created my WordPress site on my own and I regularly update it. It is fun to do and it’s a great way for me to show my work to people. I have met many who are interested in seeing my work.
If you want to build your own site I suggest using Dreamweaver. It is part of the Adobe Creative Suite and is fairly easy to use. It is a drag and drop application if you are in the designer view so you do not need to know code although it does help if you know how to code. You can also code in Dreamweaver if you would like in the code view.
I learned Dreamweaver in college, but I also learned lots of it using Lynda.com tutorials. Lynda.com is a great resource. You can subscribe for a monthly fee and you will have access to tons of tutorials. Right now I have a subscription and I absolutely love it.
If you do not want to build your own site, I suggest hiring someone. You can hire someone through Upwork, Freelancer, or Fiverr. It is cheap and they do a great job. I hope this video inspired you to create a site. Thanks for watching. Bye.
