Décor matters because it changes the ambiance of the room. Without décor, a room has no identity. It is just a place where people sit or eat, but with décor, it is a home. Décor often times can be costly and time-consuming, but in the long run, it matters lots because it has a positive effect on the people that reside in the room as well as the people who visit the room.

Décor can come in many shapes and forms, but I believe the most important décor in a room are pictures. I love seeing pictures on the wall of families and friends. It personalizes the room and it keeps memories encapsulated in the pictures and it brings it out into the room. I especially love black and white pictures in a room because it has a sense of nostalgia and it does not detract from the color scheme of the room.

The next important décor in a room are flowers and plants. Flowers and plants add color and beautify the living area. Potted plants will create oxygen and add to the air in the room. It is always refreshing to see roses or daisies in a room because they add elegance and sophistication but in a simple and natural way.

Another must have décor are bookshelves. Bookshelves can be filled with books. I especially love seeing classics that are first editions. They give an antiquated look to the room. They also are great for reading.

If people are visiting they can visit the bookshelves in your living room and entertain themselves by looking at the titles and the covers of your books. Shelves can also have figurines on them. They don’t necessarily have to contain just books. They can contain little fragile collectibles that give the room a sense of soul. I also love seeing heirloom China on shelves especially one of a kind China that add a sense heritage because China is often passed down from one generation to another.

Décor is important because it gives the room identity, elegance, entertainment, and heritage. All of those combined give the guests a new look into the souls of the inhabitants of the house. It gives them a sense of knowing who the people are who are living in the house.
